Jess Baum

Jess Baum is an artist, potter, mother, trainee art psychotherapist, writer, and doula. Her work often comes back to looking at the intersectional experience of girls-women-mothers as containers and vessels. “For ourselves and for others, we are the holders of life and the bearers of death in all their manifestations: from emotional material (anger, blame, shame, guilt, desire, joy, nurture, love) to physical matter (milk, blood, vomit, shit, piss); from reproduction to detachment; and from the microcosm of self-identification through to the macrocosm of global systems. Yet, the very nature of a container is that it is simply an object that can be filled, can overflow, and can be emptied. It has a dual life of capacity and limitation, fragility and strength, and it and/or its contents can be shared, sold, bought, or stolen.”
